Rules for THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP
The name of this competition is the University of Hong Kong Fencing Championship, thereafter referred to as the HKUFC.
Section One: Fencers’ Responsibility
- Fencers equip, clothe themselves in full fencing gear and fence at their own responsibility and at their own risk.
- The safety measures and methods of control taken during the HKUFC are only designed to increase the fencers’ safety and cannot guarantee it. They cannot, therefore, whatever the manner in which they are applied, impart responsibility to the Fencing Club, H.K.U.S.U., to the officials and personnel who carry out such organization, or to those who may cause an accident.
Section Two: Equipment
- Electric weapons are used in all matches in the HKUFC. The checking of the equipment will not be carried in the HKUFC, except the weight tests for all weapons and gauge tests for Epee, which are required in every match of each event in the HKUFC.
- All equipment used must pass standard weapon and equipment tests as prescribed by FIE. Kindly notw that it is NOT COMPULSORY for all participants to wear FIE 800N underplastrons, fencing jackets and breeches. Participants who do not wear them are fencing at their own risk.
Section Three: Competition Details
- The HKUFC will include only individual events in Men’s and Ladies’ Foil, Men’s and Ladies’ Epee and Men’s and Ladies’ Saber.
- All participants should report to the marshal area of HKUFC within the stated reporting time for each event. No latecomers would be entertained.
- The events would be preceded firstly with poule events, followed by integral direct elimination with a direct elimination table that may be incomplete.
- Poule events:
- Players would be divided into poules of 3, 4 or 5 players, whichever is more appropriate upon the discretion of the HKUFC Organizing Committee.
- Each bout of the pool events consists of 5 points, and the maximum time for a bout is 3 minutes in continuous manner.
- The matches will be fought using the team relay formula. The relay formula applies to all weapons.
- The bout completes under one of the following conditions:
- One of the 2 fencers has scored five points.
Remarks: In the epee event, if the two fencers reach a score of 4-4, they must fence for an additional deciding point, up to the time limit. Any double point will not be counted.
- The regulation time has passed and there is difference of at least one point between the scores of the two fencers.
Remarks: If at the end of the regulation time for the last bout the scores of the opposing players are equal, the match continues for a deciding point, with a maximum time limit of 1 minute, fought for by the fencers of the last bout in the match. Before the fencing recommences the referee draw lots to decide which participant has the priority over the other, if the scores are still equal at the end of the extra minutes.
- Direct elimination events:
- Time limit for all matches among final 64 places and final 32 places is composed of 2 sessions of 3 minutes in continuous manner and 1 minute rest in between. If a fencer scores 10 points, the match ends and he/she is declared winner.
- Time limit for all matches among final 16 places is composed of 3 sessions of 3 minutes in continuous manner and 1 minute rest in between 2 successive sessions. If a fencer scores 15 points, the match ends and he/she is declared winner.
- At the end of the regulation time, if there is a difference between the scores of the two fencers, the match ends and the fencer who has scored the greater number of points is declared winner. Otherwise, the match continues for a deciding point, with a maximum time limit of 1 minute, fought for by the fencers of the last bout in the match.
- When for any reason whatever a participant does not complete an event which is taking part, the participant has lost the match.
- At each event, the number of participants that will be eliminated will be decided by the HKUFC Organizing Committee. The total number will not be higher than 30% of the total number of participants in each event.
- In case of absolute equality between two or more participants, their seeding order will be decided by drawing lots.
- All complaints must be filed to the HKUFC Organizing Committee within 15 minutes after the match. Delayed complaints will not be entertained.
- The FIE rules will be adopted in the HKUFC. In case of any conflicts, the HKUFC Organizing Committee has the right to make the final decisions. All participants of the HKUFC must obey the final decision of the HKUFC Organizing Committee.
- The HKUFC Organizing Committee reserved the Right to alter or amend any of the above rules whenever necessary.
The HKUFC Organizing Committee and the Fencing Club, The University of Hong Kong Student Union will not be responsible for any accident that happens in the HKUFC. |
